Why the Bonus Number Matters More Than the Bonus Amount
Scroll through any casino lobby and you will see the same billboard: 100% up to ₱10,000, 200 free spins, daily cashback. It looks like free money. Then you open the terms and find a line that says 40x wagering. That single figure decides whether you ever see a peso of that bonus.
Wagering requirements, also called playthrough, rollover, or turnover, are the total amount you must bet before the bonus (and often any winnings from it) becomes withdrawable. The bonus amount itself is almost never the real story. The playthrough multiple is.
A ₱5,000 bonus at 40x is not a ₱5,000 gift. It is a ₱200,000 betting obligation with your own money on the line alongside it.
At BetPintig, this is the first thing we strip out of any review. Licensed operators under PAGCOR's watch are required to state these terms clearly, but clarity does not mean generosity. A 20x requirement and a 45x requirement can carry the same headline bonus and be worlds apart in actual value.
How the Math Actually Works
Wagering requirements are usually calculated on the bonus amount, sometimes on the bonus plus deposit, and occasionally only on the deposit. The difference is huge, so read which base applies.
Three common bases
- Bonus only: Deposit ₱5,000, get ₱5,000 bonus, 30x playthrough = ₱150,000 in total bets.
- Bonus + deposit: Same numbers, but 30x on ₱10,000 = ₱300,000 in total bets. Twice the grind.
- Deposit only: Rare and player-friendly. 30x on ₱5,000 = ₱150,000, and your bonus is not dragged into the math.
Now factor in the house edge. If you grind slots with a 3% edge, ₱150,000 in turnover carries an expected loss of around ₱4,500. That is before you count the fact that not every bet counts fully toward playthrough. Suddenly the bonus is not a bonus. It is a discount on your expected losses, and sometimes not even that.
Why 40x on slots is not the same as 40x on live baccarat
Game weighting is where most Filipino players get burned. Slots usually count 100% toward wagering. Live dealer games, baccarat, blackjack, and many table games often count 10% or less, sometimes 0%. So a 40x requirement on a game weighted at 10% is effectively 400x. You would need to bet forty times more than the stated figure to clear it.
If your game of choice is live baccarat, a slots-heavy bonus is close to worthless. Look for operators that offer table-game-friendly promos or simply skip the bonus and keep your balance clean.
The Rules Hiding Behind the Number
Playthrough is only one clause. These are the others that regularly decide whether a withdrawal gets approved or voided.
Maximum bet while wagering
Most bonuses cap your bet at ₱100 to ₱500 per spin or hand while the requirement is active. Exceed it, even once, and the casino can confiscate the bonus and any winnings. This catches players who hit a hot streak and raise their stake. Set your bet size before you start and do not touch it.
Time limits
Bonuses expire. Seven days is typical, fourteen if you are lucky, thirty on some VIP offers. A ₱200,000 turnover obligation in seven days is a full-time job. Check the clock before you claim, not after.
Game exclusions
Some slots are excluded entirely, usually high-RTP titles or progressive jackpots. Others count at reduced rates. The excluded game list is often longer than the eligible list, so scan it.
Sticky vs non-sticky bonuses
A non-sticky bonus lets you withdraw your real-money balance before clearing playthrough, forfeiting the bonus. A sticky bonus locks the bonus into your balance and it is removed on withdrawal after wagering. Non-sticky is better for players who want flexibility.
Maximum cashout
Some promos cap how much you can withdraw from bonus winnings, for example 5x the bonus amount. A ₱5,000 bonus with a 5x cap means your ceiling is ₱25,000, no matter how much you win. That clause alone can turn a lucky run into a disappointment.
How to Compare Two Bonuses in Under a Minute
Forget the marketing. Run this quick test on any offer you are considering.
- Find the playthrough multiple and write it down.
- Find the base: bonus only, or bonus plus deposit?
- Multiply to get the raw turnover figure.
- Check game weighting for the games you actually play. Divide the turnover by that percentage to get your effective requirement.
- Check the max bet, max cashout, and expiry. If any of them is unreasonable, the bonus is not for you.
Two examples from real terms we have seen this year. Offer A: ₱5,000 bonus, 25x bonus only, slots 100%, max bet ₱500, 14 days. Effective turnover ₱125,000. Offer B: ₱8,000 bonus, 35x bonus plus deposit, slots 100%, live games 5%, max bet ₱200, 7 days. On slots that is ₱455,000, nearly four times the grind for a bigger headline number.
Offer A wins, and it is not close. This is exactly the kind of comparison we run before anything gets ranked on the site.
Free Spins and Cashback: Different Rules, Same Trap
Free spins and cashback look simpler. They are not.
Free spins
Spins usually come with a fixed value, say ₱5 per spin on a specific slot. Winnings from those spins often land in a bonus balance with their own playthrough, frequently 20x to 40x on the winnings only, which is fairer. But some operators apply playthrough to the spin value itself, which is nonsense. Check where the winnings go.
Cashback and rebates
Cashback on net losses is usually the cleanest promo on the market because it often has no wagering at all, or a very low one. Weekly rebates of 5% to 10% on net losses are common. If you are a regular player, a no-wagering cashback deal frequently beats a fat deposit bonus. Do the math for your own volume.
Reload and daily promos
These tend to carry tighter caps and shorter expiry because they are designed for high-frequency players. Only claim them if your session length and bet size fit the rules.
What Fair Terms Look Like in 2026
The Philippine online casino market has matured. Operators competing for the same players cannot hide behind 60x rollover terms the way they did a few years ago, and PAGCOR-licensed brands face real pressure to publish clear, consistent rules.
As a working benchmark for 2026, terms we consider reasonable for a slots player:
- Playthrough of 25x to 35x on the bonus only
- Slots weighted at 100%, live dealer at 10% or more disclosed upfront
- Max bet of at least ₱500 while wagering
- Expiry of at least 14 days
- No max cashout cap, or a cap of at least 10x the bonus
- Non-sticky bonus with the option to forfeit and withdraw your own funds
Anything tighter than that is not automatically bad, but it needs a reason to exist. A 45x requirement on a small bonus with a seven-day clock is a trap dressed as a welcome offer.
One more thing worth saying plainly. The best bonus is often the one you do not claim. If you deposit to play baccarat or blackjack and intend to withdraw on your own terms, keeping your balance free of bonus conditions is usually the smarter move. Bonuses are a product. They are designed to keep you playing longer, and that is fine as long as the terms are honest and you know exactly what you signed up for.
